Hi everyone, Welcome back to my blog! It’s been a while since I’ve posted, I’ve been super busy lately doing a lot of traveling but now that things are finally starting to settle down I can share with you everything that has been going on… so be prepared for a ton of posts headed your way. I recently just got back from a 16 day Euro trip with my boyfriend and some close friends and I want to write a post about every country we visited. I thought it would be cool to share with ya’ll what we did that we liked, we didn’t like and what we wished we would have done. So, I wanted to go ahead and start with a post about our time at Tomorrowland & forgive me this might be a little long.
Tomorrowland is a 3 day EDM festival held once a year normally at the end of the July in Boom, Belgium and this year was the first year that they extended into 2 weekends because it’s so popular. You can buy single day passes, weekend passes or passes where you can camp out in tents all weekend. We only bought 1-day tickets for Saturday because after that we headed on a nice long Euro trip. People come from all over the world for this, it’s amazing to see everyone getting along and connecting over the music.
There’s around 20 stages, each designed and decorated with their own theme and host different artists. The main stage is by far the biggest stage where the most popular artists play and it’s normally the stage that closes the night out so it gets packed quickly. We spent half the day visiting the other stages and then around 8 PM we found us a spot at the main stage and stayed there for the night. There was about 15 of us so we managed to snag a spot up on the middle of the hill where we could still see the entire stage and had a little moving room. If you go down to the bottom it’s so packed you can hardly move and I like to dance and jump around a lot so we needed plenty of room for all that.
Food and alcohol are all over the place and we were blown away by how cheap everything was! Tomorrowland is cashless so when you get inside you have to load up your wrist band with “Pearls”. They have different options of how much you can load but I believe 20 Euros was for 13 pearls and surprisingly beers were only like 3-4 pearls and the food was around 6 so it wasn’t that bad!
How to get tickets:
Getting tickets through Tomorrowland is pretty much impossible but we knew this going into it because last year they sold out within 40 minutes but we still tried and failed. lol First, you have to pre-register on Tomorrowland’s website which is super important, you can’t buy tickets if you don’t pre-register. They also said that the first 10 people from each country who pre-register would receive a dedicated link to buy a max. of 4 tickets. However, we saw people complaining on their Facebook page that their link wasn’t working and wasn’t able to get tickets, so just be prepared for worst-case scenario.
Once you pre-register they will send you an email a few weeks later with a link that will bring you into a waiting room when it’s time to buy tickets. We basically stared at our computer screen for a solid 45 minutes that said we were waiting in line and then all the sudden something popped up saying tickets were sold out. However, they did send us another email saying we will have another opportunity to buy tickets a few weeks later and have to go through the whole process again. My boyfriend and I didn’t feel like going through all that mess again because out of the 15 of us who tried to get tickets only 1 girl got in and the only tickets left were for 1 day during the 2nd weekend and we needed first weekend tickets. A few of our friends tried again and weren’t successful so luckily there are a few other options to get tickets.
We bought our tickets from Viagogo which is their version of ticket master. We had to pay A LOT more for them, like almost double, but we knew we wanted to go and knew that they were legit so we didn’t have a problem with that. I’ve heard of people selling them on craigslist or eBay, but I would just be careful when doing that. You can also get on Tomorrowland’s Facebook page and a lot of people will be selling theirs or trying to trade, especially when it gets a little bit closer to the festival because peoples plan change.
We got there around 2 PM because we had to pick up our tickets at will call and thought there would be a long line, but when we got there we didn’t have to wait in line at all! Not even to get into the festival, it was awesome, if only festival’s in the states were like that!
Where to stay:
Our plane took off from the states Friday at 8 PM(EST) and it was an 8-hour plane ride so we landed in Belgium at 8 AM Saturday morning, which worked out perfectly because we slept the whole time on the plane. The hotel we stayed at was about 20-25 minutes from the airport and about 30 minutes from the festival. We were able to catch a shuttle right around the corner that took us to and from the festival. Honestly, figuring out where to stay is just personal preference and what you have planned before/after the festival, you can always take a train, taxi/uber or they have a lot of shuttle locations.
What to wear:
Since people come from all over the country for this our group decided to wear USA themed outfits. We thought that a lot more people would be dressed up in their countries colors but a lot of people just wore shorts and tops but I personally would dress up…that’s part of the fun of going to this festival. We also brought an American flag so we could wave it around, a lot of people had theirs and danced around with it, it’s cool to see where everyone has traveled from. I would bring comfortable shoes since you are going to be on your feet all day, a lot of us bought shoes from Walmart and threw them away after because we knew they would get dirty. Also, bring a rain jacket because it will most likely rain while you are there.
Thank you for reading this post, hope this helps if anyone is interested in going! Let me know in the comments if you have been or plan on going and have any questions. Also, go follow me on Instagram, I’ll slowly be posting more pictures 🙂 Below is a video my boyfriend shot of the closing fireworks.
xoxo,
Holly
